Indian Food Bread Favorites Part 1

Here at Seattle India Bistro in Ballard we offer delicious and authentic Indian breads to pair with our delicious India food dishes including a variety of naan breads. What is naan you ask? Naan is a leavened flat oven baked flour bread, found in the cuisine of Central Asia, Western Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Indonesia, Myanmar and in the Caribbean. In traditional Indian cooking the oven used to make naan is a tandoor clay oven. A tandoor is typically a cylindrically shaped clay or metal oven used in cooking and baking. Originally the heat for a tandoor was made from burning charcoal or wood fire, in the tandoor. The food is exposed to the live fire, radiant heat cooking, and hot-air, convection cooking. Commonly tandoors remain lit for very long periods of time to maintain the high cooking temperature of up to 480C. Nowadays the traditional tandoors are used by restaurants while smaller sized and electric tandoors can be found in home kitchens.
